INTUITION AND PSYCHIC ABILITIES

Question: "For a couple of months, I have had the urge to learn how to be a psychic and about spiritual healing, I even attended a course which truly was expensive and a waste of time. The weird thing is that I am a VERY logical person and have no psychic abilities. What can you advise me?"

Psychic Advice : Every person is born with psychic abilities and intuition in one form or another. Just as everyone can throw a ball, or draw a picture, or even play an instrument, everyone has the ability to access intuition. The key is to learn to use it together with your logical, rational intellect, which creates a very powerful combination. You can learn to train and develop your intuitive abilities, just as you can with athletic, artistic or musical abilities - but you must find the right teacher who can help you develop your natural intuitive powers to your full potential. These intuitive abilities are our inner guidance system, which is designed primarily to keep us safe, and then to help us find the things that give us joy in life. It is like an inborn compass to direct you on your journey through this lifetime, but you must learn how to use it.

All children are born with a very heightened intuition because they are otherwise rather helpless and vulnerable. Children know intuitively what feels right to them, and if they are allowed and encouraged to trust themselves, then they become highly intuitive adults who can achieve anything they desire. Unfortunately, our Western society values indoctrination over intuition, and so intuition becomes discouraged from a young age. Whenever children are told that they are not seeing or hearing what they say they are seeing or hearing, they begin to stop talking about it, and eventually shut it off.

This is especially true of feelings - many children are empathic and can feel what another person is feeling. But when they ask, "What's wrong, Mommy?", and hear, "Nothing, honey, I'm fine", then that child starts to doubt what he/she was feeling to be true. These children are often dismissed as simply being "too sensitive", however, empathy is a powerful psychic ability that is often used for spiritual healing.

It has become almost "natural" to have intuitive abilities shut down in childhood. Even telling children to eat when they are not hungry, or sleep when they are not tired starts to shut down their own ability to listen within in order to know what is true and right for them. The worst thing to do to children is to make them hug or be with someone that they don't want to be close to - they are picking up valid reasons not to want to be near that person, and overriding this natural safety mechanism can leave children open to trusting others over themselves, which is highly dangerous for them. The best thing to do is to listen to children and support them to keep in touch with their own guidance. But most people were raised in a way that shut the door to their intuition, and so it lies latent within everyone, waiting to be reopened. However, it is never too late to reopen this doorway to access all knowing.

Going through life without using intuition is like walking around with your eyes closed. You would become more dependent on your other senses to guide you through life, but you would be missing out on a great deal of beauty in the world, and would be far more vulnerable. All you have to do is open your third eye to truly see, and there are many ways to do this.

Unfortunately, our society values logic and dismisses intuition (although this is starting to change, especially in business as many of the most successful people in the world have said that they regularly follow their intuition, including Ray Kroc, the founder of the outrageously successful McDonalds). It is becoming readily accepted that many scientific innovations could not be arrived at by intellect alone without an intuitive spark of inspiration.

Like many people, you have learned to rely solely on your intellect and logic in order to guide you through life. But this only gives you half the perspective, and less than half of the information available to you, because your intuition is tapped into higher awareness and is able to see the "bigger picture". Your intuition now wants to open up and bring greater balance and awareness to your life. You are also feeling drawn toward spiritual healing, which is another natural gift that you can use to help yourself and others.

Ancient societies (some not so long ago, such as the Native American Culture) greatly valued and relied upon intuitive abilities, and so would teach techniques to nurture and develop various intuitive powers. Today, there are not many who are able to teach such skills. As is true with learning anything from someone else, what they can teach is limited by their own ability.

I was trained to develop my psychic abilities by the Intuitive Consultant to the U.N., and I am now offering classes this October to teach others many of the techniques that he taught me, as well as tools and techniques that I have learned from other teachers, and from my own guidance in my fourteen year journey as a professional psychic. In my Intuition class, I teach techniques to hone and develop empathy or clairscentience (psychic feeling), clairvoyance (psychic seeing) and clairaudience (psychic hearing). We will focus on being able to read others intuitively, as well as developing techniques to gain clear guidance for yourself at any time. Some of my students have gone on to help others as professional intuitives, but this course is designed to help you to access and direct your own inner knowing for yourself. In this one-day class, you will receive many intuitive tools that will enhance and improve the rest of your life, including techniques to protect yourself psychically from other people's energies.

For those interested in spiritual healing, I am also offering an Advanced Intuition class that focuses on techniques to work with energy and healing. This class explores psychometry (receiving psychic information from objects), healing others at a distance, reading and clearing the chakras, cleansing and repairing the aura, an introduction to the benefits of pendulum dowsing, invoking the power of intention to energize food and water, and much more. The Intuition class is a pre-requisite to the Advanced Intuition class, as it establishes a foundation of powerful intuitive tools and techniques that form the basis for spiritual healing to be effective. (For those coming from out of town who want to take Advanced Intuition, I may be adding an Intuition class on October 16th, as the class on October 1st is almost full. I am also offering an Intuitive Tarot class. Many people ask me about the Tarot, saying that they have always been intrigued by it, but have not been able to learn it from books. The Tarot is a symbolic pictorial language that allows the Universe to speak to you. All you have to do is learn to read that language, but as with any language, it is difficult to learn from a book. In my Tarot class, I will teach you how to read the Tarot intuitively, which is the way it is meant to be read. I will provide a deck of Tarot cards to be used in the class by each participant, and we will explore the cards from a symbolic perspective, allowing the Universe to speak to you and guide you with this ancient tool. In one day, you will learn to read the cards to gain clarity and direction for yourself, as well as for others.

I have taught these classes since 1992, and am now offering them once per year in the Fall. In 2005, they will take place in October in Victoria, BC, Canada. Classes are limited in size so each person can receive individual attention, and the classes are already filling up, with the October 1st Intuition Class almost full (I am considering adding another Intuition class on October 16th). These are all one-day intensives that are designed to access, develop, direct and hone intuitive skills to achieve lightning-fast results. The classes are fun, exciting and experiential, so you can fully explore and enhance your own intuitive abilities. For those who are not able to travel to Victoria for these classes, my recording "The Magic of Intuition" provides a five-minute meditation that attunes you to your intuition.

As with all things, working with your intuition is something that improves with practice. If you have relied solely on your logical mind for many years, you may have a tendency to doubt yourself and must overcome your own skepticism. Be willing to listen to your own knowing - the more you listen to it and trust this small voice within you, the stronger and more powerful it will become. Use it for all the little things at first, so you can learn to trust it to guide you through the big things in life. Remember that intuition is a Divine gift that has been given to each of us - as with all gifts, it is more useful when you open it.
