ThE Root of ILLNESS
"What is the cause of illness?"
The body always desires to be in a state of optimum health, and is designed to be a self-regulating, self-balancing and self-correcting system. The body is a natural pharmacy that produces "drugs" and chemicals on a constant basis in order to maintain the health and balance of the system. This is not something that one has to think about, thank God, because it would be impossible to maintain life even for a moment if we had to consciously be in control of all of the functions necessary to run the body: heart beat, breathing, blinking, swallowing, digestion, assimilation, elimination, movement, blood flow, etc, are all occurring simultaneously and constantly. The body is a miracle and a marvel of biotechnological design. The only things we are responsible for in this whole process are our thoughts and our choices, and these affect how the entire system functions.
Everything in the Universe is energy, including humans. Everything in the Universe vibrates at a particular frequency, creating an ordered pattern of energy. Health is the natural state of the body, and the body is always trying to maintain the frequency of health and wellness, and the ordered pattern of energy that goes with that. Thoughts are waves of energy, and just as waves can disturb the stillness on a pond, so do our thoughts affect the energy patterns in the body. Illness occurs when energy (chi) becomes blocked in the body so it cannot flow in its naturally harmonious pattern.
Energy blocks are often triggered by emotional blocks, which come from thoughts and beliefs. To be human is to have a body, a mind and emotions. Emotions are a gift to humanity that allows us to feel joy, love, passion, and excitement; it is through allowing the full spectrum of human emotion that we evolve spiritually. This is what sets humans apart from other creatures in the Universe.
In our present societies on Earth, we have various beliefs and judgments about expressing certain emotions that cause us to suppress them. But emotions are energy, and if that energy is not released, then it must go somewhere. That unexpressed emotional energy gets lodged in the body, and dams the natural flow of energy. This creates blocks that distort our energy pattern, change our frequency, and allow disease to flourish. The emotions that cause the most damage when repressed are: guilt (creates mental disorders), shame (often attacks reproductive organs), anger and rage (which cause heart attacks), resentment (which forms cancer), grief and sorrow (affect the lungs), fear (weakens nervous system), etc.
These blocked emotions trigger disease, but it is the thoughts and beliefs creating the emotional blocks that are the root cause of illness. Everything in our world is born of thought, even children. Everything that we create and experience was first a thought that brought us to that experience. No two people will ever have exactly the same experience, because we each see things differently, through our own perspective, which is colored by our own thoughts and beliefs.
Our thoughts and beliefs create energy that attunes us to a certain frequency, which ultimately either promotes life or death. Our thoughts and beliefs create all of our reality, and determine our experience of that reality (including disease). In order to change your reality, you must change your mind, and change your life to support your wellbeing.
Positive thoughts trigger positive emotions that raise the frequency of the body to promote the energy of vibrant health. Positive thoughts and emotions trigger the release of chemicals such as endorphins in the body that support and sustain wellbeing. Negative thoughts produce negative emotions, which trigger the release of chemicals that attack the body and lower the immune system. Over time, these negative thoughts and emotions lower the frequency of the body to that of disease, and eventually to the lowest frequency of death. Just as your body must eliminate toxic substances, so too must your mind and your emotional body purge itself of negativity in order to maintain a state of wellness.
Some people eventually choose to see illness as a gift. Illness is the body's way of letting you know that something is out of balance in your life and needs your attention. The mind and intuition will often give you these messages for quite some time before the body manifests the symptoms in order to really get your attention. If you continue not to listen, then the body will speak louder and louder, until it is screaming in pain.
Before disease develops, there is usually some form of discomfort. Discomfort on any level is a gentle message that something must change in order to support your wellbeing and happiness. Pain and discomfort are not bad - they are your body's way of communicating with you, just as your emotions are. This is the language of the body, and if you learn to listen to yourself, you can maintain optimum health.
Disease, or dis-ease, is caused by some form of imbalance in one way or another, so creating balance will restore health. The sooner you pay attention to the discomfort, the easier and faster it is to rectify. If you wait until you are in dire pain before you pay attention to yourself and your needs, then you may get to the point of having to make a life or death decision.
Those who choose to live can live, no matter what doctors tell them (there are hundreds of people walking the Earth today who should be long gone according to their doctors). Health is a choice, disease is a choice, and death is also a choice. But death is not a failure, nor is it the wrong choice to make. At this time on Earth, death is an eventual reality. It is not a failure, but simply a fact of life. If a person chooses to die, that person deserves to be loved and supported in that death process. Ancient cultures had ceremonies and rituals to support the dying and their loved ones. Without this support, we fear death and judge it as bad, which also causes us to fear life. We feel helpless and powerless over life, death and disease, because we put the power outside of ourselves and into the hands of the medical community.
Ultimately, we are responsible for our own lives, and for our own choices. Responsibility is not about blame. We tend to use the word "responsible" as some sort of accusation or judgment, and as a synonym for blame, but responsibility is simply the power of choice, the ability to respond and to choose our responses.
Life is a choice, and so is death. Those who have had near-death experiences have shown us that the choice of life or death continues even after the last breath is taken. You always have choice, but if you choose life, you must have faith in your body's ability to heal itself. You must also be willing to change your life, and to change the imbalances and patterns that created the frequency of disease in the first place.
The mind holds the key to healing and wellbeing. Thoughts and beliefs cause disease, and thoughts and beliefs can cure disease, as evidenced by the "placebo effect". The mind is a powerful tool: it can be your greatest ally, your greatest weapon, your greatest obstacle, your greatest enemy, your greatest teacher, your greatest friend, and your greatest source of strength. Your mind determines your success or failure, your doubt or faith, your joy or pain, and your health or illness. You have power over your mind, so ultimately, you have power over your life and death.
Every moment of life is a choice. The sum of our thoughts, beliefs, choices, responses, reactions and perspectives determines our experiences in life, and how we experience them. Health is a gift, and illness can be also. Ultimately, it is all in your mind: your thoughts create your experiences, and changing your thoughts can change your life. It is that simple, but not always that easy!
Thoughts and beliefs are the root cause of illness, but there are many factors that contribute to the manifestation of disease, which I will cover in next week's column.
In a spiritual healing or psychic reading, I can address the thoughts and beliefs that are causing imbalances, and help you clear the emotional blocks that eventually manifest as disease.
