EVERYONE VOTES EVERY DAY
Enacting your power of choice can make great changes on a daily basis, if you choose to. This week's column is not about politics, but about the power of choice. This column is being repeated for the benefit of those in British Columbia who are facing a major election this week. But remember, voting is not limited to election day - it is something we all do every day with our thoughts, our money and our energy.
"How can I feel that I have a voice as to what happens in the world around me?"
Your vote is your voice, but you must realize that you vote every moment of every day, because you exercise the power of choice every moment of every day. What you choose in each moment affects your world. What you choose today affects the future, for you, for the world, and for generations to come.
"I choose to be spiritual, not political. Why should I vote if I don’t believe in it?"
You vote with your conscience, your thoughts, your energies and your emotions. Whatever you are focused on is what you are supporting with your energy, and your energy is your vote. You are always voting for something. You can never truly vote against anything, because even if you are against something, the very fact that you are focusing on it gives it your energy, which empowers and supports it. You cannot really be against anything because that would mean that you are pushing against the entire Universe. You must focus on what you are for, and let the Universe flow with you and support you in that. The Universe is never against anything - there is no resistance, there is only unconditional acceptance. Choose what you want to experience (not what you don’t want), and let that be what you focus on, and where you direct and invest your thoughts and energies.
"Why is it that the “little guy” doesn’t have a say in anything?"
You do have a say in everything. At this time, money makes the world go ‘round (we’ll address this in another column). You vote each day with your dollars, because what you choose to spend your money on is what you invest in. For instance, if you choose to buy organic produce from a local farmer, then you are not only investing your money in the health of the planet and the environment, but you are also investing in your local community, which makes your community richer as a whole. If you invest your money in products that come from a far away land, then you are investing in that country, and supporting its policies and regimes, whether you like it or not. Nothing is truly cheap - there is always a price to pay in one way or another. Your choices determine what you invest in and support.
"I am just one person, how can I make a difference in this world?"
You make a difference every day by the choices you make, the thoughts you think and the emotions that you feel. The energy that you emit ripples through the entire Universe, like a pebble on a pond. It is like the “butterfly effect” which suggests that the flapping of a butterfly’s wings in China could create atmospheric changes, which, over a period of time, could affect weather patterns in New York. Everything is interconnected and interdependent. You are only one person, and you are the only one there is, because there is only One. You are that One. You have the power of that One, so you make all the difference in the world.
"Why should I even bother voting when it doesn’t seem to make any difference?"
Your vote does make a difference because it allows you to express your power of choice. There are many countries in the world where this is not a right, where this is not available to the general public, or to women, or to certain minorities. Many people have sacrificed a great deal to give you the freedom and the opportunity to vote, and you owe it to them and to yourself to exercise this right and to be grateful for it. One flame in the darkness still gives light; when many people join together to bring light, then we have true illumination and enlightenment for all. Just keep expressing your truth, and encourage all those you know to do the same, and when it comes time to vote, know that every vote counts.
