Miracles & the power of prayer

"Are miracles real? Does the energy of the oneness in the form of angels and guides ever step into the free-will world we live in and perform miracles? Do the apparent miracles have to have been predetermined when the individual is preparing to return to life on Earth? Does fervent prayer make a difference?"

Webster's Dictionary defines a Miracle as:
1) An extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs; 2) an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing or accomplishment; 3) Christian Science: a divinely natural occurrence that must be learned humanly.

Miracles are indeed real and occur all around us all the time. In fact, life itself is a miracle - it is a miracle that an act of love can produce another human being, or that a tomato seed that is just a millimeter in size can produce several pounds of tomatoes with just soil, water and light! In the above dictionary definition, the Christian Scientists have the perspective that miracles are naturally occurring, and that it is up to us to see them and recognize them. The more you see miracles in everything, the more miracles you will be open to seeing and experiencing.

Miracles are a matter of faith. You must believe that miracles are possible in order to experience them, and to recognize them as such. Most of the miracles that we choose to focus on have to do with life and death, and with situations related to healing (often spontaneously), but miracles can take all forms.

Free Will dictates that we must ask for help, and that it cannot be foisted upon us. One of the ways for us to do this is through prayer or meditation, which invokes the power of intention. It is important not to limit the Universe with what you are asking for, because the Universe can create far more for you than you can imagine for yourself (Oprah often says that God dreamed far more for her life than she could ever have dreamed of). A friend of mine prays in this way to allow for all possibilities: "Universe, thank you for bringing me what I ask for or better."

The most powerful form of prayer is that of gratitude. This is important for many reasons. First, because gratitude is a form of affirmation - it firmly plants and nurtures the seed of what you desire to create and experience. Gratitude holds a very high vibration, so it magnetically attracts all that is on that high frequency, which is the frequency of love, of joy, of wealth, and of healing. You must align yourself with the frequency of what you choose to experience, because like attracts like. This is the principle behind acting "as if" - be the change that you want to experience, believe in it, behave as if it has already occurred, resonate at that frequency of energy and you will surely create and attract it.

When you pray in the form of wanting or pleading, the energy of wanting will create more wanting, because it continues to affirm that you do not have it. It is best to be at peace and in total trust and faith when you pray or meditate - fervent or frantic energy can actually repel what you are calling for, especially if what you desire is peace and well-being. You must align your energy with what you want to experience so you can draw it to you, and have absolute faith and trust that it is coming.

When you ask for a miracle, it is important to be grateful that you have already experienced it: "Universe, I am grateful to have received this miracle". Because all time is now, the more you affirm that you are experiencing something in the present, the more presently you will experience it. Also, because we live in a multi-dimensional Universe, all possibilities exist on one dimension or another. The more you positively affirm that you are having a certain experience, the more you shift yourself onto that track of that dimensional reality. If you find yourself experiencing something that you do not want, you can say: "This is not an acceptable reality, what I now choose to experience is ______, and I am grateful for it."

Miracles do not need to be predetermined before you incarnate, however, they cannot interfere with your life plan or life purpose, or that of another. What you pray for cannot override the Free Will of another, so there must be willingness and co-operation on the other person's part if what you are asking for involves another being.

There can be many reasons you may not get exactly what you ask or pray for: your karma or sacred contracts may not allow it, or it may not be aligned with your highest good or the highest good of all, or it is not part of the great plan. For instance, you could pray for the miracle of winning the lottery (which is a legitimate miracle), however, having all that money could take you off your path and interfere with your ability to do your life's work, so it will not be allowed. However, winning the lottery could provide you with the seed money to perform your life's work, in which case it would be aligned with you as long as you are willing to receive in miraculous ways and believe that this is possible.

Divine intervention does occur on the Earthly plane, but it cannot override Free Will, so there must be an openness and a willingness to receive assistance. As long as we are willing, then our angels and guides, and especially our guardian angels, can affect miraculous change in any area of our life. There are many reported cases of mothers gaining superhuman strength in order to save their children, which is far more than pure adrenaline at work. Many people who experience miracles that saved their life often say that they saw an angel or a Saint at the time.

There have been many cases of documented miracles over the centuries. In order for a person to be canonized as a Saint, the Catholic Church requires that at least two miracles be performed in that person's name after their death, which must be verified and demonstrated to have no reasonable explanation. Pope John Paul II was reputed to have performed miraculous healings in his lifetime, and many people are proposing that he should be named a Saint. It is important to remember that saints are not perfect, they are human beings who have a great desire to help and inspire others. It is through that love and desire that they inspire faith in others that allows for the co-creation of miracles. Their desire to help others continues after they pass into spirit, but we must remember to ask for that help. Once we call upon their help, they are happy to use their higher power to assist us to create and experience miracles in our lives.

You can increase the power of prayer and intention by having more people praying for the same thing. However, do not be disappointed if the outcome is not as you envisioned it. The Universe works in mysterious ways, and there if far more that takes place on the unseen planes than we can ever conceive of. Sometimes things that are truly miracles may seem to be anything but. Many years ago, a friend of my brother's was in a tragic car accident that left him a paraplegic; however, he had been a very reckless pilot who would surely have killed himself and possibly others had his path not changed. The car accident saved his life, and he is now married with children and a successful financial career.

We cannot judge what is a miracle and what is a tragedy - in many ways, everything we experience is a miracle and a gift. The more we are grateful, the more we raise our vibration to attract more to be grateful for, so be grateful even for your difficulties and challenges, which may be miracles in themselves. The more you count your blessings, the more blessings you will have to count on.
