CAREERS FOR SPIRITUAL PEOPLE

Question: "My principle has always been that spirituality should be free and I have never taken any money for example from the astrology readings, etc. Spirituality cannot be bought or sold, and nobody has the right to capitalize by attempting to do so."

Psychic Advice:
Over the years, I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people say that money should not be involved in spiritual work, that sacred things are devalued by having money attached to them, and that one should not have a career based on spiritual gifts. If one is to have a true spiritual understanding and commitment, then isn't everything sacred and spiritual?

No matter what one does for work, if it is an act of service in any way, then it is a spiritual act. The people who grow your food, transport your food, sell your food, cook your food, and serve your food are all performing a spiritual service that we are all willing to pay for. These are all careers for spiritual people who can learn how to exercise their spiritual gifts through any means of serving others. Really, spirituality is not about a hierarchy of saying that one person or one type of service is more spiritual than another - all are worthy and all should be valued.

Keeping spirituality separate from everything else is what is causing the ailments of our society and our planet at this time. We are spiritual beings having a physical existence in a material reality, and we are here to experience the physical and the material plane. Everything is spirit in essence, because it is all pure energy vibrating at different frequencies. Money is energy, and it can hold positive and sacred energy if we allow it to.

In its essence, money is neutral because it is simply pure energy - it becomes imbued with the energy of people's beliefs and associations. Those people who love money tend to have money, because love is a highly attractive force. Those people who judge and reject money rarely have money, because why would anyone want to attract what they despise? Yet since money gives people power and freedom in this world, spiritual people should be willing to accept that responsibility and power to influence the world for the better.

Why do so many spiritual people embrace poverty consciousness? Those who have taken vows of poverty for spiritual reasons in other lifetimes can still be operating from that commitment in this life. It is one thing to surrender to leading a monastic life when your basic human needs are supported by a spiritual community, but to renounce receiving money in a world where money is necessary to basic human survival does not make sense.

There has to always be a balance between giving and receiving - this is the law of nature, that everything must be in balance. When things become out of balance, suffering is created. We pay for water to our homes, which some say should be free, yet the service we are paying for is to have the luxury of water being delivered to our homes instead of walking miles to collect it - we are paying those who maintain the quality of our water, and those who install the pipes to deliver it, and those who build the dams and reservoirs to collect it, etc. We don't think twice about paying the doctor for serving our health, or the farmer for providing our food - yet these are spiritual acts of service that serve the wellbeing of all.

Money is meant to flow, just as water is meant to flow, just as energy is meant to flow. It flows to us and from us, we receive it and we give it. There is no difference whether it is an exchange of beads, or buttons, or scraps of paper, or metal coins. Money is simply energy that we have put a value on, and spiritual service is also an exchange of energy that has value.

We can all give of our time, energy and services without charging money, but as long as money is a unit of measurement for the exchange of energy and value, then we all owe it to ourselves to honor our worth, value our services by being willing to receive and to give. This is what keeps everything in divine balance and allows everyone to prosper and thrive in their own wellbeing. If you are not willing to receive, you will eventually no longer be able to give or be of service.

If you don't accept money for your astrology readings, then what do you do to support yourself and your wellbeing? If you must spend most of your time doing work that you consider to be "not spiritual" in order to accept money to live on, then you are not able to devote the majority of your time and energy to your spiritual work of helping people. The more time and energy that you devote to your spiritual work, the more people you can help and serve, so if you were willing to have a carreer based on spiritual gifts and be financially supported by doing your true spiritual work, you would help yourself to be able to help more people.

Many people feel a lot of fear and judgment around money. The "financial crisis" that is facing the world right now is being caused by mass fear, which is causing people to stop spending money. When that happens, it stops the flow - it creates a dam that damns everything and everyone. We must recognize that money, like everything else, is a spiritual force, and we must be willing to let it flow to us, through us, and from us - no matter who we are, where we are, or what we do. Money is one of the few things that is shared by people all over the world - it is an expression of divine love that we give to each other, honoring each other's worth and value.

How better to exercise your spiritual gifts then to work with them as your career. Careers for spiritual people can include all forms of healing, counseling, guidance and support, from being a massage therapist, to a guidance counselor or career counselor, to being a nurse or a doctor. You can and should exercise your spiritual gifts in everything you do. Is it okay for a nurse to accept money for her work, but not a healer? And a counselor can accept money for their work, but not someone offering intuitive or spiritual counseling? Not only is it important to develop a career based on your spiritual gifts, but you must allow yourself to be supported to do so in order to be able to serve the greatest number of people - and thereby serve the highest good of all, which is truly divine.

Careers for spiritual people must allow them to exercise their spiritual gifts and receive support for doing so. If spiritual people cannot sustain their livelihood, how can they continue to give and share their gifts? Water is a divine gift that flows freely, but if it is not replenished by receiving rain, then it dries up and can no longer provide sustenance. It is important that we release our judgments of what is spiritual and what is not, because everything is spiritual and sacred. If we hold everything in reverence and honor the value of everything on Earth, then we heal ourselves and this planet. Of course, it is not all about money, but we can no longer afford to hold spiritual beliefs that exclude money from what is spiritual and sacred. You are worthy of receiving your worth, so don't fall into the spiritual trap of giving yourself away.
