HOW TO: PSYCHIC READING

Question #1: "I am a psychic reader with 10 years experience and I am just starting to build a client base. All my clients tell me they really like my readings and I get great referrals. This week I got one client I could not read for - it doesn't happen very often but I was completely shut down and everything else was just off. Are there limitations as to the kind of information I can see with some people, or is this a matter of experience that all psychic readers face?"

Psychic Advice:
In over 17 years as a professional psychic reader, I can tell you that this happens to every psychic I've ever known. It does not happen often, but when it does, it can be painful and frustrating. I have experienced this kind of psychic block about a dozen times in all these years, and when I do, I usually stop the reading and do not charge for it, unless the client wants to continue. Interestingly, once I offer to end the reading and not charge them, many of these clients insist on continuing and paying me, which shifts the energy and usually allows it to flow better because they are more co-operative and open.

People have natural defenses, and they must be willing to open themselves in order to allow themselves to be read psychically. Some people are definitely easier to read than others because some people are more open than others. People can be afraid of psychics; many people worry that we can read their every thought, which makes them very nervous so they try to shield themselves from being completely vulnerable. Many people are very afraid of being told bad things, or they have been traumatized by readings from bad psychics or "gypsies", so their fear creates a wall that can be overcome by putting them at ease.

I tell people that I am not reading their mind, and that because I am empathic, I can feel what they feel, so I am very gentle and don't want to cause them pain. I tell them that I will not hold back information, but I will always deliver it in a way that they can work with. I don't go out of my way to look for bad things, but if they come up it is for a reason, so I give them the tools to do something about it. I will not tell someone when they will die because I believe that we have choice right up to the final moment, and even beyond the last breath, as near-death experiences have shown us. In fact, my focus in my readings is about giving people the power of choice, empowering them to be independent and guiding them to connect with their own guidance and intuition. I believe that we have choice in every moment, and the beauty of a reading is that it provides the roadmap of choices and opportunities. Knowledge is power, because it allows one to make the best possible choices.

Sometimes it can help to tell your clients what your philosophy is about readings, and what your approach is. I tell my clients that my focus is on helping them to experience the greatest amount of joy in their life, to explore their gifts, talents and abilities so they can make the most of them in this lifetime. I tell them that we will discover whether there are any blocks to their joy and happiness, and if so, then we will find the way to heal those blocks so they can live well and happily. If they understand the true benefits of a reading, then they can be more open and relaxed.

It is normal for people to people to feel a bit nervous at the beginning of a reading, but that usually doesn't affect the reading, unless they are extremely skeptical. Skeptics can be challenging to read because they start off being so closed minded and closed energetically. During the first fifteen minutes they usually have their arms crossed, and maintain a "prove it to me" attitude. It is still possible to read for them, but it is like scaling a castle wall before you can get in, which wastes a lot of time and energy.

Sometimes people have experienced deep trauma that they are not conscious of, and their own guidance can create a wall or veil to protect them. You may need to actually ask their permission in order to address the root of an issue or to discover the cause of their pain, suffering or chronic patterns and conditions. Sometimes, you may receive information that you need to know in order to guide them, but you are not meant to give them that specific information (especially with regard to childhood sexual abuse) - you must listen to your own guidance carefully as to what to do in these delicate situations. Always ask permission, especially with deep issues.

There are definitely things that you cannot and are not meant to see with some people. Also, there are times when one cannot receive an answer to a question, or when one cannot connect with someone else that the client is asking about. Often, this is because that other person has not given their permission and does not want to be read - in many cases, that other person is usually psychic or empathic, or else they know that their friend or loved one is having a reading and they intentionally block themselves from being read. You can try to access the information in a number of different ways, perhaps asking the client to rephrase the question, or asking for a bit more information about the person or question, but don't force it. Always set an intention to receive information that is for the highest good of all, then trust when you can't connect with an answer, and simply be honest about that.

There are a number of other factors that can influence being blocked psychically. I start to go into trance and altered states before a reading, which can feel like fatigue, but I am always very careful to only do readings when I can give 100%. I do not do readings if I am sick, tired, or otherwise distracted. I make sure that I get enough rest beforehand so I have the power, strength and energy to do my best work with each and every client. I limit the number of readings that I do in a day and in a week so I don't exhaust myself. It is always better to reschedule a reading than to give an inferior reading - it may be inconvenient, but the key is to be able to give the best possible reading, which everyone will appreciate.

Some people are in denial, and don't really want to hear the truth; they want to hear what they want to hear, and will ask the same question several different ways to try to get that answer. Do not force a reading - if it doesn't flow, it doesn't flow. You can only give the information that you receive. I have had a few situations where the client has resisted almost everything I've said, but did not want to stop the reading. In most of those cases, I receive calls from them months or even years later telling me that they thought I was completely wrong at the time, but it all came to pass in time.

It is wonderful to have referrals, and it is a testament to the good work you are doing. Most of my work has come through referrals, which is really the greatest form of recognition, and the greatest blessing of service to be able to help an entire family, or an entire group of friends to grow, evolve and heal together. Sometimes, however, some people can feel forced or pressured by friends or loved ones to have a reading when they may not want to. I have found that of the dozen cases in all these years where I had difficulty connecting to the client, several came from a forced referral. We each vibrate at our own frequency, and sometimes we connect and resonate with some people better than others - that's why there are so many psychics, "different strokes for different folks". Let that be okay - it is not a failing or a weakness on your part. The most important thing for how to do a great psychic reading is to let go of the need to be right and simply allow the highest truth to flow.

Question #2: "I have read Tarot cards for approximately 20 years for others, but find that I am not as clear as I would like to be when reading for myself."

Psychic Advice:
It is much easier to read for others than it is to read for oneself. This is very common for many psychics and readers. In fact, the less you know someone, the easier it is to read for them, because you can remain completely detached and objective. The closer someone is to you, the more challenging it is to detach and remain neutral. In reading for yourself, it can be helpful to address the reading as if you are a client, and detach from yourself - this can give you a very interesting perspective on yourself that can be quite enlightening. Set an intention that you are open and willing to know the truth, and to receive the highest truth.

If I read the Tarot for myself, I often use a different deck than I normally use. I use a deck with similar imagery, but one that I am less familiar with so that I can more easily allow my own guidance to bring my attention to the symbolic messages. Again, the key for how to give yourself and others the best psychic reading is to detach from the outcome and remain as objective as possible.
