BELIEFS AND PSYCHIC ABILITIES
Question: "Can religious views cloud my psychic powers?"
Psychic Advice:
Any strong belief system, including religious views, can influence and interfere with psychic impressions. Edgar Cayce, perhaps the world's best known psychic medium, was called "the sleeping prophet" because he went into a deep trance in order to bring forth psychic information. Much of that information was contrary to his own Christian beliefs, so he had to move beyond the limits of his waking consciousness in order to access higher truth.
One of the most challenging things about working with intuition and psychic abilities is to get out of your own way. Intuition and psychic abilities do not come from the rational part of the mind, they come from a higher knowing or perception that is delivered through the right side of the brain, which is the center of creativity, inspiration and intuition. The rational mind seeks to try to understand and rationalize everything, so it will often censor, deny or discredit intuitive information. Intuition, by its very nature, is not rational - it is divine knowing.
A little skepticism can be a healthy thing. Skepticism is a form of discernment that allows you to choose what feels true to you. The problem is that many skeptics, or people with strong beliefs and convictions, have a closed mind that keeps them imprisoned in limiting beliefs. These limiting beliefs create a sense of comfort and an illusion of control because they define the world and give the ego mind the idea that it understands everything about its reality. What it actually does is limit that reality according to those beliefs. No other possibilities can exist because nothing new can enter a closed mind.
On the other hand, healthy skepticism can lead one to ask questions. The nature of the Universe is such that whenever a question is asked, an answer is given, one need only be open to receive the answer. Many great scientists and thinkers who have been involved in some of this world's greatest scientific advancements and discoveries have said that those solutions could not have been arrived at simply by linear or rational thought, but required intuitive inspiration and a leap in consciousness. With an open mind, anything is possible.
The key with intuition is to be willing to know the truth, even if it is not what you want to hear. Ask the Universe for what you desire to know, then pay attention to everything around you. The answer can come in a song on the radio, or words/lyrics that you hear in your mind. The Universe often has a great sense of humor, so the answer can present itself anywhere at any time, even on billboards or bumper stickers. Pay attention to everything that you see, hear and feel.
It can be helpful to ask for three clear signs that are GENTLE and easy for you to understand. The Universe takes everything literally, so make sure that you ask the right questions in the right way to get the answers that you are seeking. If one asks, "why am I such an idiot?" one will get answers, but they will probably not be helpful or supportive. But if you ask, "what is causing me to repeat negative patterns?", you will be given signs and answers that help you to understand and heal yourself at a deeper level, supporting you to be happier and more productive in your life.
The Universe really wants us to be happy, and will support us to create and experience joy in our lives, if we allow it. Heaven can be experienced on Earth, and our intuition can guide us to experience that. Suffering is optional.
The greatest challenge with working with our intuition is that the intuitive signs and perceptions we receive must be filtered and interpreted through our rational mind. This can lead to a great deal of confusion, fear and mistrust, because the rational mind wants to feel that it understands and controls everything. Our rational mind is the masculine mind, and it wants to keep us safe and protect us. It has a tendency to view what is unknown or unfamiliar as being unsafe. Because of this, one has to have a chat with the rational mind in order to get it to co-operate with one's intuition.
It is vital for the rational mind to know and accept that the primary purpose of our intuition is to keep us safe. That is also the primary goal of the ego/rational mind, therefore, it is in their best interest to work together and trust each other in order to have all the information necessary to protect us. Once that primary level of trust is established, the rational mind will be more open to listening to intuitive guidance.
The next thing for the mind to understand and accept is that our intuition is also designed to lead us to our greatest success and happiness, which will also benefit the ego and the rational mind. There is no getting around the ego/rational mind because it is determined to run the show, so we must seek its co-operation, acceptance and understanding in order for our intuition to be able to guide us.
One of the best tools for working with intuition is a pendulum. A pendulum is an ancient tool that has been used for hundreds of years in a process known as dowsing or divining (often done secretly because of religious beliefs and censorship). Pendulums have been known to find many of the oil reserves in the world, as well as gold, water, missing items, etc. The best thing about a pendulum is that it provides intuitive guidance and answers to any question in a way that one can clearly see and feel. One can also devise tests to ensure that the information being received is true and accurate.
Ultimately, it is important to remember that our beliefs create, affect and determine our reality and our experiences in this world. Keep your mind open to new possibilities and be willing to explore and determine your own truth. Always trust yourself first, and trust what feels right and true for you, letting that guide you in your life.
