EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
COSTS TOO MUCH?

Question: "There is a lot of talk about the need to start stocking up on survival needs, such as food, water, means to make fire, all the things we need to survive when everything goes to s--t. Do you foresee our reality coming to this? I don't personally want to live like that and I can't get myself to take these warnings to heart. I don't, however, want to see these collapses come to fruition and not being able to survive. What do you see as a psychic?"

"Psychic Advice": Many people tend to think that emergency preparedness costs too much, not only in terms of money, but also in terms of time, energy and even space. A lot of people don't want to think of emergency preparedness - they want to think that nothing will ever happen to them, and if it does, someone will help them or take care of them. But emergencies do happen all the time, and being prepared for anything can help you survive and minimize your suffering, and perhaps diminish the impact of the disaster on others as well.

As humans, we have physical needs for our wellbeing and survival. Up until the last century, most people lived in ways that were self-sufficient. They lived off the land, and used the bounty of the summer and fall to survive for the winter. Most families spent most days ensuring the sustenance and survival of their family, and in many parts of the world, this is still true today.

In our modern western life, we have gotten used to being dependent on outside sources to meet our needs. Most people don't grow food anymore, and rely on a steady seemingly never-ending supply of food from supermarkets. This food does not just miraculously appear on the shelves, it requires a constant and unbroken stream of production and distribution in order to be delivered to your local market. Any emergency that breaks this chain of delivery can mean empty shelves in the grocery stores. Humans can survive without food for several days, but emergency situations can reduce humans to animal behavior if survival is in question.

Therefore, it is wise to have a supply of food that could last several weeks in case of an emergency. If you have space, you can keep a pantry stocked with items that you rotate, essentially allowing you to shop from your own basement and replenish that supply as you use it. You can also keep a supply of non-perishable foods that you donate to food banks once a year as your restock your supply to keep it fresh. If you do not have much space, you could easily keep a few cases of energy bars on hand that would serve as meal replacements in an emergency.

The Earth is going through a cycle of change, and like it or not, humanity is undergoing that change as well. So-called "Global Warming" is leading to climate change all over the world, which is creating more and more intense storms and weather phenomena. The detonation and testing of nuclear devices in the oceans, atmosphere and deep within the Earth is wreaking havoc on the delicate balance of this planet. And, the melting of glaciers and polar ice is also likely to have devastating repercussions for humanity and the Earth.

Throughout Earth's history, nature has brought forth cataclysmic change, from devastating earthquakes to erupting volcanoes, to floods and tidal waves that wipe out everything in their path. Humans are merely guests on this Earth - we do not hold dominion over nature, and the more we try to control nature and the weather, the more disastrous the consequences become. China's "weather modification office" claimed that they could guarantee there would be no rain for the Olympics, yet it poured on Beijing, and also on many other places around the world who had one of the wettest summers ever. Until humans learn that we can't mess with mother nature, we must simply accept that we are at her mercy, and must do whatever we can to prepare for anything.

How many people are even prepared for a blackout? We have become so dependent on the magic of electricity that we simply assume it will always be there. We get incensed at the inconvenience of a power-outage, and wait impatiently for the power to come back on so we can get back on our computers and open the fridge to get all our needs met. But electricity also requires a steady and unbroken stream of production and supply - it does not arrive at your home by magic electrical fairies. We have all seen how windstorms, ice storms and other natural phenomena can cut a city's electrical supply, leaving it virtually paralyzed. In some places, this can last for weeks.

We cannot rely on the government to take care of us in an emergency. We have seen the impact that disasters like Hurricane Katrina and others have had - emergency relief is often ill prepared to take care of the most urgent situations, let alone everyone's needs. This is partly because governments also hold a belief that emergency preparedness costs too much, but not being prepared for an emergency actually costs way more in terms of lives and loss.

It doesn't take a psychic to tell you that there will be more tornadoes, devastating earthquakes and hurricanes. These are forces of nature - it is part of the natural world that has always been and will always be. The problem is that humanity's ignorance has made these situations worse and more intense by our abuse of nature and the Earth. Humans have become a pestilence on this planet, and we are not acting fast enough to change our ways.

Up until a hundred years ago, most people took care of their own needs, and did not take from the Earth more than they needed.  Now humans have become voraciously greedy, taking unprecedented amounts of oil from the earth, fish from the seas, trees from the forests, and polluting the air and water at alarming rates - all of this with virtually no restriction, and no thought of the global repercussions. This has all occurred within a century. The law of physics states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, so we have yet to see the penalties that the laws of nature will exact for humanity's unending, unrestricted and unrepentant rape of the Earth. This is not about divine retribution, but it is the natural law of cause and effect, and we will all be convicted of the crimes against nature that are perpetrated by a greedy and powerful few.

From a psychic perspective, clean water and untainted food will become more and more precious worldwide. Not only should we all keep emergency supplies, but we should also start growing our own food and digging wells wherever possible. Mechanized, centralized farming and food production is failing us - because we are robbing nutrients from the land and using chemical fertilizers, we are being robbed of nutrients in our food that promote our health and wellbeing. Storms and natural disasters will intensify, particularly in coastal communities, and will impede the supply, distribution and production of food and other essentials, such as oil. We have all been shown horrific images of our potential future, but it is not too late to change for the best, and prepare for the worst.

Keeping a survival kit is not about being paranoid, it is about being prudent. Every person needs to be responsible for his/her own survival, and the survival of his/her children. You and your family can make your own survival kits. Depending on where your live, your at-home survival kits should take into account the issues that might impact your area - for instance, there might be some differences between earthquake survival kits and a hurricane survival kit, so if you live in an earthquake zone or in a hurricane prone area, plan accordingly.

The contents of a survival kit should include cash, because in the event of an emergency, you are not likely to be able to access cash or credit. You should have a supply of your medications on hand, and continually use and replenish that supply. Every home should have a first aid kit that is fully stocked for any emergency. It is wise to store water, and to have water purification tablets or devices. You should have candles, flashlights with fresh batteries, a portable radio, and tools to make fire. You might want to keep a grab bag for your car with a change of clothes and sturdy shoes suitable for all weather conditions. You should keep copies of your most important documents somewhere outside your home, ideally in another city if at all possible. You should also have a few plans in case there is a need for evacuation - many people perish in disasters because they don't heed evacuation warnings.

The cost of emergency preparedness cannot compare to the cost of not being prepared if and when an emergency does occur. As a psychic, I believe that emergency preparedness is prudent for everyone. It is grounded in rational and logical reason. We all need to be more self-sufficient and take responsibility for ourselves.

We also need to take responsibility for our thoughts, feelings, choices and actions, because these are contributing to the global condition and outcome for one and all. Our frenetic energies, fearful thoughts, hateful emotions, selfish choices and violent actions stir up turbulence in the collective consciousness that triggers more unrest in the world. This impacts the energy of the Earth itself, and can be a contributing cause of disasters, both natural and man-made. We can avert and mitigate disaster by maintaining peace and calm within us, therefore, the deepest form of emergency preparedness that doesn't cost too much is to use meditation and visualization to hold the energies of peace for yourself and for your world.
